Please, take a seat...
Me in a nutshell...
Hello and welcome. My name is Simone and I am a Canberra-based artist, coffee and plant lover, crocheter, knitter and mum of three. While I have lived all over Canberra, in Sydney and, briefly, in London, I am happily settled in Canberra, in the very suburb in which I grew up. My husband and I have three children and have just built our forever home – an all-consuming knock-down-rebuild, which just quietly I do not recommend!
How Simone Audrey began...
I first began painting after a very stressful two years of building a home, having a baby, going through lockdown with two school-aged kids and a newborn, and moving into an unfished house where we lived without electricity in 35 degree heat for the first week, and no main bathroom for three months!
Painting became a way of, first and foremost, adding some colour to the walls of our new home, and secondly as a mindfulness activity where I had permission to be messy, and there was no pressure to get anything "right".
And now here we are...
After a few months of messing around with shapes and colour, my friends and family began to ask for commission pieces, which both confused and humbled me. It brought me so much joy knowing that something that I enjoyed doing so much was also appealing to other people. And so Simone Audrey Artwork was born.
